Vehicle Overturns in Greenlawn; Occupant Escapes Before Emergency Crews Arrive

Greenlawn, NY - On 9th February 2026 at approximately 1:03 PM, volunteers from the Greenlawn Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of a reported motor vehicle accident involving an overturned vehicle.
First Assistant Chief Richard Jones, Third Assistant Chief Chris Schumacher, and district paramedics responded immediately to the call. While units were en route, Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services notified Greenlawn dispatch that one person had initially been reported trapped inside the overturned vehicle.
Upon arrival at the scene, Assistant Chiefs Jones and Schumacher confirmed that the occupant had already self-extricated prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
Station 1 Rescue Engine 2-7-8 and Station 1 Ambulance 2-7-5 responded to assist. Crews from Rescue Engine 2-7-8 worked to ensure the vehicle was properly stabilized, with additional support provided by Headquarters Rescue Quint 2-7-2.
Emergency units remained on the scene for approximately 30 minutes under the command of First Assistant Chief Richard Jones. No additional hazards were identified, and all responding units were subsequently returned to service.
