PATERSON, NJ - A two-alarm fire in Paterson on March 6th left multiple residents homeless as flames traveled through the voids of the large structure to leave it uninhabitable.

At approximately 11:15 P.M., companies were dispatched to the intersection of 15th Ave. and East 28th St. for multiple reports of a fire. On arrival heavy fire was involving the rear porches of the structure that apparently housed at least four families. The fire was extending into the building on the second floor and attic areas.

Companies made a push inside, but the flames had a head start and soon had possession of the second floor and third floors in the rear. A second-alarm was sounded as flames broke through the roof. The fire continued to intensify and members were withdrawn as several dormers appeared to be in danger of collapse. A third truck company was called to the scene as flames slowly consumed the roof.

Two tower ladders, one ladder pipe, and multiple hand lies were put into operation and the flames appeared to be darkening down. Members were ready to re-enter the building when the fire intensified again and operations continued defensive. Overhead power lines kept movement of the elevated streams limited, but eventually the fire was able to be quelled. No serious injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
