Key West, FL — February 12th — At Key West International Airport, Monroe County Fire Rescue—Florida Keys, 7280 Overseas Highway, Marathon, FL, United States, 33050—took part in the annual full-scale airport emergency drill. The Federal Aviation Administration mandates that commercial airports participate in this drill every three years to assess their ability to respond to a simulated aviation emergency.
Volunteers played the roles of injured patients during the exercise. The City of Key West Fire Rescue, the Naval Air Station Key West Fire Department, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, emergency management, and healthcare partners all provided training to aircraft rescue and firefighting crews. The incident command, triage, patient transport, and interagency communication were the main topics of the scenario. According to officials, the exercise enhances regional readiness and promotes FAA compliance.
