On Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, at approximately 2050 hours, the Rahway Fire Department was dispatched to the 500 block of West Scott Avenue for a smoke condition. As units called, service dispatch quickly advised them that multiple callers were stating they saw flames from the house and that there were reportedly people trapped inside. Units arrived to find a two-story wood frame residential structure and transmitted the working fire along with a 2nd alarm stating heavy fire on the Charlie side. Engine 1 arrived first due, took the hydrant on the cross street, and stretched the line to the front door. Ladder 1 immediately began primaries upon arrival. As companies had multiple handlines getting water in the fire, they still had a heavy volume of fire on multiple sides of the home as well as on both floors,s and members had to bail out of the structure. Evacuation tones were also sounded along with the transmission of the 3rd alarm. Units continued knocking the fire down with multiple handlines until conditions improved. Companies operating on the Charlie side found fire in the basement and quickly knocked it down as units resumed primary searches on Division 1. As they were conducting the primaries they located spongy floors in Division 1. At the 50-minute mark, the fire remained doubtful,l and a PAR was conducted. At the 80-minute mark, the fire was marked as probable will hold. Companies operated for multiple hours to fully extinguish the fire and conduct overhaul.
