February 19, 2026 — Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department Association announced that three of its members recently completed the Ice Rescue Technician course hosted by New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department and instructed by Rescue Products International Inc.. The specialized training focused on cold-water and ice rescue techniques, equipping firefighters with the skills necessary to safely respond to emergencies involving frozen lakes and waterways. Participants practiced self-rescue, victim extrication, rope operations, and coordinated team response methods under realistic winter conditions. Department officials commended the members for their commitment to professional development and ongoing training, emphasizing that advanced preparation enhances both responder safety and the department’s ability to serve the community effectively during winter emergencies.
