LAKELAND, FL — February 1st — On Sunday morning, Polk County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene of a residential structure fire on Scenic View Street. When crews got there, they discovered a single-wide mobile home completely destroyed, with rumors of a potential resident. After conditions improved, firefighters started suppression efforts and carried out a primary search.

One person was found during the search and declared dead on the spot. Responding staff did not report any injuries. After putting out the fire, crews stayed on the scene to assist with the overhaul and investigation. The State Fire Marshal's Office and the Polk County Sheriff's Office are helping to identify the reason. To increase early warning and life safety, officials encouraged locals to keep their smoke alarms in working order and to practice their home fire escape plans.
