February 4, 2026 — Shortly after 11:00 a.m., members of the Bethel and Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched as Rapid Intervention Teams (R.I.T.) to assist the Brookfield Fire Department at a working house fire on Fleetwood Lane. The R.I.T. assignment tasked crews with standing by to immediately assist any firefighter in distress during interior operations. During the incident, a “MAYDAY” was transmitted after a firefighter fell through a weakened floor; however, the firefighter was able to self-extricate safely without serious injury. Multiple departments from surrounding communities operated on scene for several hours before the blaze was brought under control. In addition to the Fleetwood Lane response, Bethel’s Squad 5 remained on standby at Brookfield Headquarters to provide coverage in the event of additional alarms, while another Bethel crew simultaneously handled a truck fire within town. The day marked a demanding stretch of operations for local volunteer firefighters serving the region.
