February 2, 2026 — Members of the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department gathered Monday evening in the truck room at Headquarters, 38 South Street, to kick off a new “Back to Basics” drill series for 2026. The session focused on ensuring both new and veteran firefighters are thoroughly familiar with the location and function of every tool and piece of equipment carried on each apparatus. Led by the Deputy Chief, Fire Lieutenants, and the department’s Engineers, members reviewed truck compartments and equipment placement to reinforce operational efficiency during emergency responses. The drill concluded upstairs in the meeting room, where former Fire Captain Matt Troy presented proposed updates to Standard Operating Procedures and reviewed new radio procedures. Department officials noted that continued hands-on training remains a priority as members prepare for upcoming events, including the annual “Cold Water Rescue” drill scheduled for February 9 in Stony Hill.
