February 8, 2026 — The Attleboro Fire Department responded Sunday evening to a serious four-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 South in the area of Exit 2. At approximately 7:26 p.m., crews were dispatched for a reported motor vehicle accident and arrived to find significant damage involving six occupants among the vehicles. Firefighters temporarily shut down the southbound lanes to create a safe work zone and utilized hydraulic rescue tools to extricate one trapped occupant. Four individuals were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries, while two others declined medical treatment. District Chief Michael Maitland noted that the extent of vehicle damage and number of patients required careful assessment, triage, and a complex extrication process, adding that crews operated efficiently under dark, cold, and challenging conditions. Mutual aid assistance was provided by the North Attleboro Fire Department and the Central Falls Fire Department. One travel lane was reopened after all patients were transported. The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
