BEDFORD, MA — January 22nd — As part of their regular winter operations, Bedford Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2310 Group 3 members finished their ice rescue training this morning. Using ice rescue suits, rope systems, and rescue sleds, crews rehearsed cold water response tactics. Rapid deployment on unstable ice, coordinated victim removal, and firefighter safety were the main objectives of the exercise. Every year, ice rescue training is held to keep ponds and lakes prepared for emergencies.

According to department representatives, ice will never be deemed safe for any use. Ice can suddenly become weaker due to temperature fluctuations. It is recommended that locals avoid frozen areas and consider any ice to be dangerous. After training was over, the units went back into service.
