BEDFORD, MA — January 14th — Members of IAFF Local 2310, the Bedford Professional Firefighters, finished their ice rescue training at Fawn Lake. The usage of ice rescue suits, rope systems, and rescue sleds were among the cold water rescue tactics that the crews employed. Training emphasized rapid deployment on unstable surfaces, coordinated victim removal, and firefighter safety.
Every year, ice rescue exercises are held to get ready for situations that may arise on lakes and ponds in the winter. Ice conditions can swiftly deteriorate due to Massachusetts's recent mild weather and rising temperatures. Residents are advised by fire officials to avoid the ice and to presume that all surfaces are dangerous. After completing the planned training, the units were put back into duty.
