The Canton CT Fire and EMS Department issued a public safety reminder, urging locals to phone 9-1-1 for any emergency. Officials reported receiving several emergency calls to firehouses and administrative offices during the past year, including several cases in the last week. Fire officials explained that stations are not constantly staffed since workers may be on call, and direct calls sometimes go unanswered, causing important delays. Dispatching over 9-1-1 ensures that professional telecommunicators deliver the proper resources right away. Department executives highlighted that response processes are based on established safety requirements, not caller preferences. Residents are asked to contact 9-1-1 if they suspect there is an emergency to avoid delays in response.
