January 23, 2026 —Members of the Bridgehampton Fire Department Juniors took part in a comprehensive ice safety and ice rescue training session during a recent department drill night. The training focused on recognizing unsafe ice conditions, understanding the importance of proper personal protective equipment, practicing self-rescue techniques, and learning how to safely assist victims without becoming victims themselves. Instructors emphasized preparation, awareness, and teamwork, particularly during the winter months when frozen ponds and waterways present significant hazards. Hands-on evolutions with specialized rescue equipment reinforced classroom instruction and provided junior members with practical experience in cold-weather response operations. Department leaders also engaged the community by asking residents how many ponds are located within the Bridgehampton Fire District, highlighting the importance of knowing local water hazards and their impact on emergency response planning. Officials expressed pride in mentoring the next generation of firefighters and first responders, noting that continued training ensures readiness and strengthens community safety year-round.
