Ashby, MA — January 24th — A chimney fire was reported at Main Street and South Road, and Ashby FIRE EMS Association Inc. units responded. When crews arrived, they discovered smoke coming from a private home's chimney. To be sure the fire had not spread past the chimney, firefighters examined the flue and the attic and nearby void spaces. Because wood-burning appliances produce creosote, chimney fires are more frequent in the winter. While equipment ran in the road, Ashby Police helped with traffic management. Until the incident was cleared, drivers were urged to look for other routes. The event is still being investigated, and no injuries were recorded.
