February 1, 2026 — The Bellport Fire Department conducted a comprehensive Cold Water and Ice Rescue training drill on Sunday, February 1, 2026, as part of its ongoing commitment to preparedness during winter emergencies. The training began indoors at the firehouse, where members reviewed rescue procedures, equipment, and safety protocols, before relocating to Bellport Dock for hands-on, real-world application. Despite temperatures in the mid-teens and a wind chill that dropped conditions to approximately minus one degree, firefighters successfully completed the drill, reinforcing their ability to operate effectively in extreme cold and hazardous ice conditions. The exercise focused on coordinated rescue techniques, victim recovery, and responder safety, ensuring members remain ready to respond to ice-related emergencies throughout the winter season.
