MIDDLE HOPE, NY – On February 8th, at approximately 11:35 PM, Middle Hope Fire Department and additional units were dispatched to the Parr Valley Condominiums for a report of smoke in the structure. While responding, OC911 advised Car 2 that multiple calls were coming in reporting a fire with possible people trapped. Car 2 requested a second alarm to bring in additional mutual aid.

Upon arrival, Car 2 encountered heavy fire on the first and second floors of the A/B side of the structure. Further investigation revealed no persons were trapped, though unfortunately, a few pets were. Multiple hose lines and the deck gun from Engine 338 were deployed, successfully knocking down a large portion of the fire. However, the building had no fire protection within the construction and contained numerous void spaces, which allowed the fire to travel to areas that were not easily accessible. Command requested a third alarm to bring in additional manpower. Firefighters endured -10°F temperatures, with winds creating even harsher conditions and extreme ice hazards.

One civilian was transported by EMS for evaluation. Several firefighters slipped on ice, but no injuries were reported.

We extend our gratitude to all members and mutual aid companies who were either on scene or stood by in our quarters and helped put us back in service. Despite the challenging conditions, the operation was completed safely and without injury.
