At 1:58 a.m. on January 30, the Binghamton Fire Department was summoned to 545 State Street for a reported garage fire involving a vehicle. Upon arrival, personnel saw a completely engaged two-story garage with fire encroaching on exposed homes on both sides. Firefighters deployed additional hoselines to protect surrounding structures and extinguish the main fire. A significant fire load, partial interior collapse, and zero-degree temperatures all contributed to the difficulty of suppression attempts. Crews conducted efforts to remediate hot spots that were difficult to access because to the collapse conditions. The Binghamton Police Department, Superior Ambulance Service, and NYSEG all provided assistance on the spot. There were no casualties reported, and the fire is still under investigation.
