MONTVILLE, CT - At 6:16 A.M. on Saturday, February 4th, the Mohegan, Montville, Oakdale and Chesterfield Fire Departments were dispatched to 239 Fitch Hill Road for a chimney fire. Mohegan’s Engine 23 arrived at 6:21 A.M. reporting smoke showing from the attic and transmitted the working fire which added the Mohegan Tribal FAST with tankers from East Great Plain and Poquetanuck.

Engine 23 stretched a one-and-three-quarter inch hose line inside where he found active fire in the walls and attic. Ladder 15 arrived next and set up in the front. Tanker 43 arrived and nursed the scene. Mohegan Tribal Engine 1 stretched a second line so Norwich FAST was added. Engine 12 reverse laid a supply line and pulled a draft from a brook. About one hour into the incident, command made the decision to evacuate and go defensive.

Crews were hampered in their efforts due to the extreme cold which was -8 degrees. The Montville Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. East Great Plain Ladder 5, Laurel Hill Engine 62, Quaker Hill, Flanders and the Mohegan Tribal Ambulance covered the Town of Montville throughout the incident.
