The South Deerfield Fire Department responded just before 4:00 p.m. on January 31 to a residence on Elm Circle for a suspected gas odor within the building. Firefighters investigated the report and discovered that a burner on the kitchen stove was left on, causing gas to gather. Before permitting tenants to re-enter the home, crews ventilated it and utilized gas meters to ensure that circumstances were safe. The Deerfield Police Department also attended and assisted at the scene.
