PORT WASHINGTON, NY - The Port Washington Fire Department announced plans to build a new, modern training facility thanks to a $1 million grant from the Peter and Jeri Dejana Foundation. The organization has agreed to fund the entire project, which will give more hands-on training chances for firemen. The facility will be named in honor of Captain Robert H. Dayton, who was killed in the line of duty on November 26, 1988, during a search and rescue operation on Main Street in Port Washington. Captain Dayton's family joined the department leadership in accepting the donation. The project will support firefighter readiness while honoring the department’s history and service.
