January 22nd —The Essex, MA Fire Department has activated Squad 2 following a series of enhancements aimed at supporting emergency operations. The vehicle, a 2016 Ford F-350 pickup, was previously operated by the Town's Department of Public Works before being reconfigured for fire department use.

Changes included rebuilding the utility body, adding toolboxes, and installing emergency and scene lights. Squad 2 will largely carry personnel and equipment, allowing for faster response to situations. Its four-wheel-drive capacity allows for easier access throughout the winter and in distant or difficult-to-reach regions. The Essex Fire Company contributed funding for the project. The Trailer Shop executed the modifications, using skills and materials given by owner James Romeos. K & D Signs and Lettering performed vehicle lettering, while Tinkham Landscapes supplied a snowplow to help with winter operations.
