February 1st — Members of the Wellsville NY Volunteer Fire Department spent part of Sunday afternoon cleaning snow from fire hydrants throughout the village and town. Three firefighters and three junior firefighters worked in two squads, moving through several neighborhoods to improve access ahead of any situations.

More than 50 hydrants were cleared by the two crews, in addition to those addressed earlier this week by individual members. According to department officials, snow-covered hydrants can hinder water supply operations, particularly during winter events, and early removal allows firefighters to work more efficiently on the fireground. Residents who helped by shoveling hydrants near their homes were commended for their efforts. After finishing the hydrant operations, workers reacted to an alert. When the Junior Firefighters Captain returned to the station, he reviewed apparatus assignments for Wellsville 3 and Wellsville 9, giving junior members hands-on training.
