Mendon, MA — January 27th — The Mendon Fire Department, located at 8 Morrison Street in Mendon, Massachusetts, is reminding locals how crucial it is to have fire department water supplies available after a significant snowfall. Because there aren't many pressurized fire hydrants in Mendon, firefighters must rely on subterranean cisterns when fighting fires. In order for engines to position near the shorter pipe and draft water from the tank, these cisterns must be removed. For fires to have a consistent water supply, this access is essential.

Currently, firefighters are clearing as many cistern spots as they can throughout the town with a plow, snow machine, and shovels. In order to guarantee access to water supplies during winter situations, the department is asking locals to help by clearing cisterns in their communities when they can.
