Charlton, MA — January 26th — The Charlton Fire Department in Massachusetts responded to a chimney fire that had been reported on Richardson Corner Road. When Engines 1 and C-1 arrived, they verified that there was a chimney fire, which was promptly extinguished. After checking for extension and ventilating the house, firefighters discovered no more dangers.
Crews noticed that the homeowner's back door was blocked by snow while they were on the scene. To reestablish a secure exit from the house, firefighters shoveled out the snow. In the winter, when people use their stoves and fireplaces more frequently, chimney fires are more common. To lower risk and promote safe operations during emergencies, fire officials advise locals to maintain heating systems, keep exits clear, and get chimneys inspected on a regular basis.
