On January 23, Bethel Fire & EMS personnel worked at the South Street headquarters setting up snow chains to prepare equipment for winter response. Firefighters concentrated on making sure trucks were prepared for safe operation in winter conditions while snow continued to fall around the region.

To reach the wheels, trucks had to be positioned on inclined blocks, the proper chains had to be laid up for each device, and the chains had to be fastened. Before workers proceeded to the next car, each installation was examined. Proper chain placement helps maintain traction and control during snow- and ice-covered road conditions. In New England, winter preparation activities such as these are standard.
