When Engine 35 and Rescue 42 were sent to a dump truck incident involving downed electrical wires on January 9, members of Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47 were diverted from responding to a fire alarm. While A Platoon was traveling to the initial assignment, the incident took place. Upon arrival, firefighters found a dump truck entangled in multiple primary electrical lines, with a utility pole snapped at its base and suspended over the roadway. Fire and police officials erected a safety cordon and restricted both vehicle and pedestrian traffic to secure the area.
PSE&G was requested to respond and address the electrical hazard. Fire officials reminded the public to report hazardous conditions to 911 and to never touch or approach downed wires, as all lines should be treated as energized.
