On January 26, the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department was called to a home on Ackerman Avenue due to a reported fire at the height of a winter storm. When firefighters arrived, they discovered that combustible goods had been put too close to a fireplace, resulting in a condition of intense smoke. The homeowner received prompt assistance from volunteers on standby at headquarters in extinguishing the fire and clearing debris from the fireplace area. In addition to ventilating the house, workers verified that the fire had not spread beyond than the surrounding vicinity. There were no reports of structural damage.

The Ho-Ho-Kus Department of Public Works helped preserve access to the area by clearing roads for fire apparatus, although storm conditions made the response more difficult.
