The Gloucester County Fire Academy's Ice and Cold Water Rescue Awareness course was finished by the Hammonton Fire Department on January 30. Winter response considerations, scene safety, and first steps in ice and cold water situations were the main topics of the training. A smaller group of participants was supposed to move on to Operations and Technician-level training after the awareness session. During this phase, practical skills are practiced on ice and open water, with a focus on safe access, rescue methods, and cooperation in cold weather situations. Incidents involving ice and cold water pose special risks to rescuers as well as victims. Training programs like this are a standard part of winter preparedness, helping ensure firefighters are equipped to operate safely and effectively when emergencies occur in or around frozen waterways.
