Residents and business owners were informed by members of Teaneck Firefighters FMBA Local 42 and Local 242 that the Township of Teaneck is still reviewing and improving proposed Ordinance No. 1-2026, titled Establishing Certain Recovery of Fire Department-Related Costs and Expenses. The regulation particularly addresses expenses related to incidents involving motor vehicles.

The updated proposal is solely meant to apply to soft billing of the affected motorist's insurance company, according to the fire service organizations. Residents and businesses would not be directly billed for fire service responses under the proposal. Residents and businesses should never be reluctant to call the fire department in an emergency, officials stressed. While the ordinance review process is ongoing, the Teaneck Fire Department reiterated its commitment to providing emergency services promptly.
