As winter weather persists and more storms are predicted, the Fair Lawn Fire Department is requesting assistance from locals. Fire officials remind locals that it is the responsibility of property owners to keep snow and ice out of fire hydrants. During emergencies, having easy access to hydrants is essential and can have a direct impact on response times. The department advises leaving a clear way to the street and a three-foot gap around the hydrant in all directions. incident officials point out that clearing a buried hydrant can take five to seven minutes, time that could not be accessible during an active incident.
