Never Forget: Black Sunday

Black Sunday, January 23, 2005, is one of the worst days in the history of the City of New York Fire Department. Two different fires that day claimed the lives of three FDNY firemen. Three firefighters were killed and four more were gravely injured in a tenement fire in the Bronx's Morris Heights neighborhood. Another firefighter was killed at a different house fire in Brooklyn's East New York neighborhood. Black Sunday was the deadliest day for the FDNY since the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001, and it was the first time since 1918 that firemen lost their lives in two different incidents on the same day. Together with the fire service community, the Asbury Park Fire Department pays tribute to the deceased, remembers their sacrifice, and makes sure the lessons learned on Black Sunday are never forgotten.
