Bloomfield firefighters with assistance from second alarm mutual aid units made quick work of an afternoon fire at 23 Walter Street on January 21st.

Flames were showing from the "B" - "C" corner of the 2 1/2 story frame dwelling on the exterior, from the basement to the second floor with extension to the interior. Belleville, Nutley, and Montclair assisted in bringing the fire under control in less than one hour with no reported injuries.

Later at about 10:00 PM companies returned to 23 Walter Street and had a heavy smoke condition showing from behind the siding in the area of the original fire. Another second alarm was called for as members tore off much more siding and opened up. Once again the fire was placed under control in less than one hour. The cause of both fires is under investigation.
