Newport, NJ — January 7 — In response to a demand for emergency medical services, the Downe Township Fire/Rescue and Dive Team arrived in Newport. Utility 39 was sent to assist on-site EMS personnel. While EMS personnel assessed and treated the patient, firefighters supplied extra personnel and helped with scene management. The unit stayed on site to assist with patient mobility, access requirements, and keeping responders' workspaces safe.

In order to complement medical operations and increase overall efficiency, fire-rescue teams are frequently called upon during EMS crises. While other resources handle scene support, these reactions free up EMS personnel to concentrate on patient care. Utility 39 was released by command and put back into service once EMS activities were finished and the situation had stabilized.
