In order to guarantee prompt access during emergencies, the Livingston Fire Department is asking locals to shovel snow away from fire hydrants in their communities. Firefighters can quickly create a water supply using clear and visible hydrants, saving crucial time when seconds count. In order to further emphasize the need of community involvement in public safety, Fire Chief Christopher Mullin recently removed a hydrant in his own neighborhood. After a snowstorm, department officials advise individuals who can spare a few minutes to inspect the hydrant nearest to their residence.
