The Garfield Fire Department and the City of Garfield held their annual Fire Department Reorganization and swearing-in ceremony for 2026 officers on January 2. The occasion signaled the beginning of a new year of community service as well as the formal transfer of leadership. Chief of Department Andrew Kalata of Company 2 was congratulated by members of Garfield Fire Company #5, who also wished him well as he started his 2026 term.

Members of Company 5 also honored Company 1's 2025 Department Chief Mike Colon for his commitment and leadership. top Colon will have served as a top officer for 15 years by the end of 2025. His dedication and years of service to the Garfield Fire Department and the community were acknowledged by the department.
