On January 16, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Carlstadt Fire Department was dispatched to 417 3rd Street for a reported structure fire. When the first fire units and Carlstadt Police officers arrived, they established that a two-family home was on fire.

A fire on the home's second level prompted firefighters to launch an interior assault. Mutual assistance companies from nearby departments were dispatched to the location after the event was raised to a second-alarm assignment due to fire conditions and operational requirements. To guarantee ongoing emergency protection, the Bergen County OEM Fire Coordinators coordinated borough coverage.

About 38 minutes after arriving, firefighters managed to contain the fire. One firefighter was treated on the spot after suffering a minor injury. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office is still looking into what caused the fire. The Carlstadt Police Department, the Carlstadt Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and all mutual aid fire departments were commended by the Carlstadt Fire Department for their support.
