Alloway Township, NJ — January 9 — Members Kahne Kershaw, Mason Cobb, Kyle Reitz, and Lucas Whitacre were acknowledged by the Alloway Twp. Fire Company, which is based at 17 E. Main Street, as they started their training at the Salem County Fire Academy. Through June, the four members will complete fire academy classes every other weekend and two nights a week while attending high school during the day. The amount of dedication needed for entry-level fire service training is reflected in this schedule. The academy program teaches emergency operations, cooperation, fireground safety, and fundamental firefighting techniques. Department heads observe that early formal training helps develop the time management and responsibility skills necessary for the fire service while preparing young members for future operational duties.
