During its annual reorganization meeting on January 5, the Hackettstown Town Council formally swore in the chief officers of the Hackettstown Fire Department.

During the meeting, the oath of office was formally administered to Chief of Department Bruce Tynan, Deputy Chief Bud Volkert, First Assistant Chief Joe King Jr., and Second Assistant Chief Corey Shappell. Additionally, the ceremony signaled the department's return to a conventional leadership succession. In order to maintain continuity, members decided in 2022 to freeze chief and line officer positions for three years. This swearing-in marks the end of that freeze. The former one-year cycle will be replaced by a two-year tenure for each chief officer in their rank going forward. Long-term planning, leadership development, and operational consistency are the goals of the shift.
