DURHAM, NH — Dec. 12 — Capital Technical Rescue and Safety Consultants provided a 40-hour confined space rescue technician curriculum for the Durham NH Fire Department. Identification of confined space hazards, air monitoring, rope and retrieval systems, patient packaging, and team-based rescue operations were the main topics of the training. Responder safety and appropriate protocols for situations involving restricted access areas were highlighted in the training.
The University of New Hampshire and Durham Public Works offered facilities for hands-on evolutions, which allowed workers to practice under realistic settings. Confined space accidents necessitate specialized skills and ongoing training, according to department officials. The program's completion strengthens regional mutual aid response capabilities and improves operational readiness.
