A fire in a detached garage on Hope Street Extension was swiftly put out by the Attleboro Fire Department on Friday morning. Crews were sent to 91 Hope Street Extension on January 9 at around 9:57 a.m. due to a reported structure fire. Firefighters discovered a 25-by-25-foot detached garage with thick, dark smoke when they arrived. There was an imminent risk of exposure because the garage was only ten feet away from the main house.
After gaining access, firefighters discovered the fire at the garage's back. Within minutes, the fire was put out by the crews, who then carried out overhaul operations to look for and remove any leftover hot spots. The fire was kept limited to the garage's contents, preventing it from spreading to the adjacent house. According to District Chief Michael Maitland, "garage fires present unique hazards due to unknown contents and the potential presence of fuels and equipment." "Our crews' prompt actions prevented the fire from spreading to the house." The cause of the incident is being looked at by the Attleboro incident Investigation Unit. At around 11:10 a.m., personnel left the scene without any reported injuries.
