Dec. 28, 2025 — The Readsboro Fire Department is encouraging the community to support its mutual aid partners by attending the 15th Annual Fishing Derby hosted by the Whitingham Firemen’s Association.

The derby will take place on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Lake Sadawga, coinciding with Vermont’s free fishing day, meaning no fishing license is required. The event runs from 12:01 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and features cash prizes for the heaviest fish in two categories: perch and pickerel.

Organizers note the event is family-friendly, with kids five and under admitted free, and proceeds help support the Whitingham Firemen’s Association and its ongoing service to the region. Readsboro Fire officials highlighted the importance of backing neighboring departments that regularly provide and receive mutual aid.
