In the early morning hours of December 9, 2025, the Pownal Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request to assist the Town of Williamstown, Massachusetts. At approximately 12:03 a.m., Pownal firefighters were dispatched to staff the Williamstown Fire Station, ensuring uninterrupted emergency coverage while Williamstown crews were deployed to a working structure fire in North Adams.

A Pownal engine and crew remained on standby at the Williamstown station, ready to respond to any local emergencies during the overnight hours. This type of coverage assignment plays a critical role in regional fire protection, allowing neighboring departments to concentrate resources on major incidents while maintaining community safety at home.

The response highlights the strong mutual aid partnerships shared among regional fire departments and the commitment of volunteer firefighters to support one another across town and state lines when the need arises.
