The Pownal Fire Department added a festive touch to its new apparatus this holiday season as Santa Claus made a special appearance during the community tree lighting on December 7, 2025. Trading his sleigh for flashing lights, Santa rode atop the department’s new engine on a cheerful trip from the North Pole straight into the heart of Pownal.
The lighthearted event drew smiles from residents as firefighters blended holiday spirit with community pride. With emergency lights glowing against winter roads and snow-lined streets, the procession highlighted the department’s strong connection to the community it serves year-round.
Fire officials joked that Christmas nearly faced a setback when a mischievous “Grinch elf,” Jeff Miller, attempted to interfere with the delivery of presents. Fortunately, Assistant Chief Mattison stepped in just in time, ensuring the celebration went off without a hitch and Santa arrived safely for the festivities.
Moments like these showcase the Pownal Fire Department’s commitment not only to public safety, but also to building lasting relationships with residents through tradition, humor, and holiday cheer.
