HEUVELTON, NY — Dec. 31: This week, Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department Inc. announced the hiring of two new BLS EMTs from New York State. Zach Ashlaw and Amber Sheppard both fulfilled the prerequisites to obtain their EMT credentials. As part of the program, Sheppard, Ashlaw, and fellow participant Kristi each committed about 180 hours to ride-along training and classroom education. Patient care, EMS operations, and practical experience under supervision were all covered in the course.
