The City of Vergennes Fire Department responded on December 4, 2025, to assist the Addison Volunteer Fire Department with a one-vehicle rollover crash involving a trapped patient.
Vergennes Fire was dispatched with its heavy rescue unit after reports indicated a single vehicle had overturned with the occupant still inside. Upon arrival, Vergennes firefighters worked alongside Addison crews to stabilize the vehicle, ensuring it was secure before any patient movement was attempted. Firefighters then began assessing the safest method of extrication while awaiting the arrival of emergency medical services.
Once EMS arrived on scene, crews coordinated closely to finalize a patient removal plan. After careful evaluation, responders determined the patient could be safely removed through the rear of the vehicle without causing additional injury or unnecessary damage. The controlled extrication was completed successfully, highlighting the importance of scene coordination, patient-centered decision-making, and teamwork among responding agencies.
The incident was managed efficiently thanks to the combined efforts of all involved. Vergennes Fire Department extends appreciation to Shelburne Communications Center, Addison Volunteer Fire Department, Middlebury Regional EMS, Addison County Sheriff’s Office, and Vermont State Police for their professionalism and cooperation during the response.
