Ralston, New Jersey — December 9 — A seasonal safety reminder about the usage of dryers and the fire risk associated with lint buildup was released by Department Ralston Engine Company No. 1.

Dryer lint is a major cause of laundry-related fires, according to fire officials, particularly in the winter when households dry heavier things like coats and blankets more regularly. If dryers are not properly maintained, lint buildup can limit airflow and lead to overheating. Crews advise avoiding overloaded dryers, which put extra strain on the device, and routinely cleaning lint traps and inspecting vent pipes. Another way to lessen risks is to keep the space surrounding the dryer clutter-free.
