On the evening of December 18, members of the Cologne Volunteer Fire Company came together to honor the achievements of two community members and volunteer firefighters. Following their successful completion of the Firefighter I training program at the Cape May County Fire Academy, Ryan Leavens and Dave McBrearty received recognition. There are around 200 hours of classroom teaching and practical training in the Firefighter I curriculum. In order to train firefighters for emergency operations, the curriculum covers fundamental skills such as hose handling, ladder operations, forcible entry, search and rescue, and hazardous materials awareness.
