Mountain Lakes, New Jersey — December 31 — The Mountain Lakes Vol Fire Department, situated in 400 Boulevard, New Jersey, responded in the morning to a suspected carbon monoxide alarm activation at a Mountain Lakes home.
When firefighters arrived, they monitored the air inside the house and found elevated carbon monoxide readings in several places. Before leaving the area, crews made sure everyone inside was safe, ventilated the building as needed, and tried to isolate any possible gas sources. Because carbon monoxide is odorless and colourless, responses are handled as priority calls. Residents were warned by fire officials to contact 9-1-1 right away if a CO alarm went off. The department stated that in the case of a carbon monoxide emergency, operational alarms continue to be an essential instrument for resident protection and injury prevention.
