GROTON, CT - At 2:38 P.M. on Saturday, January 6th, the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department was dispatched to 18 Fitch Avenue for a house filling with smoke. G-38 quickly signed on and requested Engine 62 from the Groton Submarine Base. G-38 arrived at 2:41 P.M. with light smoke showing from a single-story wood-frame duplex. Engine 32 laid in from the hydrant and stretched a one-and-three-quarter-inch hose line through the front door on the right side. G-38 transmitted the first-alarm at 2:43 P.M. which added City of Groton Engine 21, Truck 15, New London Engine 2, Old Mystic FAST and Groton Ambulance with a Lawrence & Memorial Paramedic. Engine 62 made the hydrant and established the water supply for Engine 32. Truck 35 performed the primary search and ventilation. The fire was quickly knocked down and the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
