Garden City, N.Y. — October 21 — Throughout the community, the Garden City Fire Department sustained its fire prevention initiatives by delivering vital fire safety education to students at local schools and preschools, as well as attendees at various community gatherings.
Volunteer firefighters extended their outreach to Homestead, Locust, Hemlock, and Stratford elementary schools, as well as the Lutheran Church Preschool and the Oh My Goodness Kids Center. In addition to these visits, they actively participated in the St.Joseph's School Fall Festival, alongside the department's annual Fire Prevention Day and Open House events.
These engagements afforded firefighters the opportunity to deliver foundational fire safety education, address inquiries, and acclimate children to the role of emergency responders. Furthermore, these initiatives fostered dialogues regarding household fire prevention protocols and underscored the critical necessity of understanding appropriate actions during emergencies.
Through strategic school visits and community engagements, firefighters leveraged these platforms to elucidate their operational mandates, showcase departmental apparatus, and cultivate constructive relationships with the local youth.
Such formative educational initiatives empower children to identify potential fire hazards and comprehend the critical necessity of adhering to safety protocols.
The department's yearly Fire Prevention Day and Open House event provided yet another occasion for residents to engage directly with firefighters and gain insight into the operational protocols of the fire service.
Based in its headquarters at 347 Stewart Avenue, the Garden City Fire Department functioned as a volunteer entity.
Its public education initiatives were integral to a broader mission encompassing fire prevention and firefighting, while simultaneously extending to building inspections and community safety programs.
The department expressed its gratitude to educators, school personnel, event coordinators, and families for their instrumental support in facilitating the outreach initiative. Special acknowledgment was extended to volunteer firefighters, whose dedication in instructing children and advancing fire safety awareness across Garden City proved invaluable.
